Specifications:

  • Primary Application: Vapor Degreasing, Boeing BAC 5408
  • VOC: (g/L): 756
  • Boiling Point (C): 43
  • Kb: 92
  • Replacement for: nPB (n-Propyl Bromide)

Vapor-degreasing solvents remove grease, oil, dust, rust, grime, and other contaminants from plastic and metal electrical parts. When heated to a boiling temperature, the solution creates a vapor. Parts are submerged in the solution, then pulled through the vapor to dislodge any contaminants. This cleaning process eliminates the need for water or scrubbing and results in a clean, dry part.

FluoSolv® AP from NuGenTec is a vapor-degreasing fluid and defluxing solvent that effectively cleans and degreases metal and plastic parts without using highly toxic chemicals. The solution boils at temperatures as low as 110°F, making it easier and safer to handle parts immediately after cleaning.

Our vapor-degreasing solvent leaves no residue behind and will not cause staining, spotting, or rusting. It is also non-flammable and free of carcinogens. FluoSolv AP vapor degreasing solvent is a safer alternative to harsher chemical products and is Boeing BAC5408 approved for military and aerospace vapor degreasing applications.

BAC5408 Approved Vapor Degreasing Solvent

FluoSolv® AP is a proprietary blend of non-flammable hydrofluoroethers (HFEs) and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene (trans-DCE) that is a drop-in replacement for degreasing & defluxing solvents such as Chemours Vertrel® SDG, Vertrel® SMT & Vertel® SFR.

In addition, FluoSolv® AP is a safer vapor degreasing solvent option for blends of n-propyl bromide (nPB), which are toxic and discontinued widely. It can also be used as a substitute for other cleaners such as Asahi AK-225 (a blend of HCFC-225 ca/cb) & HCFC-141b, both of which are ozone-depleting substances banned from production.

FluoSolv® AP solvent blending technology leverages the chemical solvency of the fluid as well as its physical properties, such as high density, low surface tension, and low viscosity, for optimal performance. Its higher vapor pressure allows for fast, residue-free drying.

User Benefits of FluoSolv® Vapor Degreaser Solvent

NuGenTec FluoSolv® AP Boeing BAC5408 approved vapor degreasing solvent is ideally balanced to deliver performance, worker safety, and desirable environmental properties.

  • Approved for use under Boeing Spec BAC5408 for vapor-degreasing
  • Non-ozone depleting chemical (ODC)
  • Drop-in replacement; no equipment modifications
  • Low global warming potential (GWP)
  • Low toxicity; high allowable exposure limit (AEL);
  • No ceiling on instantaneous exposure
  • Chemically stable; will not go acid

Material Compatibility for Vapor Degreasing Applications

FluoSolv® AP is compatible with all metals, ceramics, and other non-conducting materials. Most elastomeric materials are compatible except fluoroelastomers such as Viton & Kalrez, which tend to swell. We recommend testing all materials before use. See Table 1.

  Compatible Additional Testing Required
Metals Aluminum, Copper, S/S Titanium, Brass, Tungsten -
Elastomers Neoprene, Butyl Rubber Viton, Kalrez
Plastics HDPE, PTFE, Nylon, PVC Epoxy, Phenolic Acrylic, ABS

Product Toxicity Data and Worker Safety

Data from acute toxicity studies of various ingredients have demonstrated that the FluoSolv® AP blend has low toxicity. It has a calculated AEL (Acceptable Exposure Limit) of 335 ppm based on its individual components. None of the ingredients in FluoSolv® AP have any chronic or acute toxicity associated with them, which makes it a worker-friendly solvent.

Please refer to the MSDS for information on detailed exposure limits and toxicity-related data.

NuGenTec FluoSolv® AP Boeing BAC5408 approved vapor degreasing solvent exhibits no closed cup or open cup flash point and is not classified as a flammable liquid per established definitions by NFPA or DOT, however, being volatile, vapors may become flammable in air. Flashpoint data and vapor flammability limits in the air are shown in Table 3 below.

  Test Method FluoSolv® AP
Flash Point (CC) ASTM D93 None
Flash Point (OC) ASTM D1310 None
Flammability in Air
Lower Explosivity ASTM E681 6.1 vol%
Upper Explosivity   11.1vol%

Storage Requirements for FluoSolv® AP

FluoSolv® AP is thermally & chemically a very stable solvent. It is non-reactive, has low water solubility, and will not oxidize or degrade when exposed to air. It is not affected by any sunlight or other sources of UV radiation. Standard industrial practice should be implemented for storage; keep away from human food sources and extreme temperature conditions.

Reclaiming and Recycling FluoSolv Solvents FluoSolv®

AP vapor degreaser solvent is a stable azeotropic blend easy to reclaim and reuse by a simple distillation process. Commercially available modular recycling units can easily be added to realize sizable savings in solvent usage. Solvent recovery yields are typically in the range of 85 to 99%.

Features

To the best of our knowledge, this product is California Prop 65 compliant.

FluoSolv® Product Specifications

The various precision vapor-degreasing applications that use FluoSolv® AP as a solvent require a high-purity solvent made under tight tolerances.

Typical NVR for FluoSolv® AP is < 3 ppm, and moisture is <5 ppm.

The solvent is slightly polar due to the presence of a minimal amount (<2%) of isopropyl alcohol, and it does not contain any free fluoride or chloride ions.
