Introduction

FluoSolv® 7200DL is a high-purity hydrofluoroether (HFE) clear, colorless fluid, developed to directly replace 3M™ Novec™ 7200DL. It is manufactured with tightly controlled impurity levels—ions, metals, particulates, and non-volatile residue—to meet stringent requirements in electronics manufacturing, particularly for lubricant deposition on hard disk drives and precision cleaning of head gimbal assemblies. The fluid is non-flammable, non-conductive,
VOC-exempt (U.S.), zero-ODP, thermally stable, and exhibits low toxicity.

Key Features & Benefits

Ultra-high purity: ≥99% ethoxy-nonafluorobutane, ≤1 ppm non-volatile residue (NVR), with strict control over ions, metals, and particulates

High performance solvent: low surface tension (~13.6 dynes/cm) ensures excellent wetting and penetration in microfeatures

Safe & environmentally sound: non-flammable, VOC-exempt, zero ozone depletion, low GWP (~55), and very short atmospheric lifetime (~0.77 years)

Low toxicity: “practically non-toxic”; recommended 8-hour exposure guideline of 200 ppm

Broad compatibility: compatible with most metals, plastics, and elastomers used in electronics manufacturing

Applications

FluoSolv® 7200DL is ideally suited for:

  • Lubricant and additive deposition onto hard disk media
  • Precision cleaning in head gimbal assembly
  • Applications requiring ultra-high purity solvents in electronics and medical industries

Material Compatibility

FluoSolv® 7200DL is compatible with a broad range of materials:

  • Metals: Aluminum, Copper, carbon steel, stainless steel, brass, Molybdenum, Tantalum, Tungsten, Cu-Be alloy, Mg alloy AZ32B
  • Plastics: PMMA (acrylic), polyethylene, polypropylene, polycarbonate, epoxy, PET, ABS, polyester
  • Elastomers: butyl rubber (best for long-term use), natural rubber, EPDM, EPR; note PTFE and silicone rubber may swell over extended exposure
